Brazilian-born Mauricio Aguiar has been a violinist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra since 1997, having also served as first violinist of the Amernet String Quartet during his first years with the CSO. In the U.S. Mauricio studied with Peter Oundjian, Dorothy Delay and Won-Bin Yim, holding a Bachelors degree from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters from Yale University. While at Yale, Mauricio also apprenticed as a violin maker under the generous tutelage of Michael Becker, and finished the construction of his first instrument, on which he played his Masters recital and his successful audition for the Cincinnati Symphony.

During his time with the CSO, Mauricio served as guest concertmaster for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and he also took a 2-year leave-of-absence to serve as concertmaster of the Brazilian Symphony orchestra in Rio de Janeiro.

Mauricio has two daughters in college and in 2023 he married his elementary school valentine, Simone Cancela.
